Cuatro Vientos spacious farmhouse or cortijo as it is known locally...
Cortijo Cuatro Vientos is situated at the foothills of the dramatic Sierra Nevada, known as the Alpujarras. The mountain views down the Rio Guadelfeo Valley are stunning.
Driving through Tijola you are greeted by the purple and pink bourgainvillea, banana trees and large date palms.
There is such a variety of plants in this rural area including, Olive trees, Orange, lemon and lime trees, an abundance of grapes and figs at different times of the year.
The original farmhouse is over 100 years old. It has been renovated to a high standard keeping the traditional Andalucian style.
You have plenty of living space and double doors that open onto several terraces so you can enjoy the morning or evening sun in private. The entrance porch and patio captures the rising sun and is a good place to have breakfast.
Should you need them, there are two efficient wood burning stoves for your warmth in the winter months.
The pool is large 14m x 5m and is for your private use between the months of May - October (weather depending).
Special Notes....
The water supply comes from a spring and we recommend buying bottled water for drinking. Water can be obatined at no cost from treated springs in the spa town of Lanjaron.
We recommend that the property is suitable for children over age five and babies not walking.
Location and distances....
From your door you have direct access to a foot path which links the higher mountain towns should you want the challenge or just a stroll up to view the valleys above. With a car you can access the river valley and Orgiva more easily. For keen walkers the path takes off at least 10 minutes if you feel like a walk through Tijola to Orgiva.
The house sits interestingly in the semi-wild and the lawned garden to the pool creates an oasis that is in great contrast to its surroundings
The market town of Orgiva has several small but well stocked supermarkets and the market is every Thursday. Typical local food is served at the many bars and several restaurants. There is a good pizzeria in town, with a summer orange grove to dine in, which is popular with tourists and locals alike.
The spa town of lanjaron where healing treatments are given is 16km away and the picturesque white mountain villages that are popular with walkers, of Pampaneira, Bubion and Capileira are within 20km and La Taha villages a further 5km east.
What to do...
There are many activites on offer in this area from diving on the coast, skiing, a network of walks including the Poqueira Valley, horseriding, parascending, mountain biking, on road biking (challenging and roads very quiet in low season).
The ski resort of the Sierra Nevada is an hour away by car and is open from December to May.
However is you want to take life a little easier the light is great for photography, the views are worthy of painting and there is wildlife to observe; such as foxes, ibex, badgers and wild birds such as swifts, hoopoos, buzzards and occassionally eagles.
